Most businesses treat used pallets as waste. A buyback program turns that waste stream into a revenue source while simplifying your yard management and supporting sustainability goals.
What Is a Pallet Buyback Program?
A pallet buyback program is simple: instead of paying to dispose of used pallets, you sell them back to a pallet company that repairs, refurbishes, and resells them. You receive payment per pallet based on condition and quantity. We pick them up from your location on a scheduled basis. Your loading dock stays clean, you generate revenue from waste, and the pallets stay out of the landfill.
How Pricing Works
Buyback pricing depends on pallet condition, size, and volume. For standard 48x40 GMA pallets in our market, typical buyback rates are: Grade A condition (minimal damage) at $4 to $6 per pallet, Grade B condition (light repairs needed) at $2 to $4, and Grade C condition (heavy repairs or material recovery only) at $0.50 to $2. For larger volumes (100+ pallets per pickup), rates improve because collection costs are spread over more units.
What We Do with Buyback Pallets
Pallets we purchase go through our grading and repair process. Pallets in good condition are cleaned, re-graded, and returned to our sales inventory. Pallets needing repair get new boards, blocks, or fasteners and then re-enter the supply chain. Pallets beyond economical repair are dismantled — usable boards become repair stock, and the remainder is chipped for biomass energy or landscape mulch. Metal fasteners are separated and sent to steel recycling. Nothing goes to landfill.
The Hidden Costs You Eliminate
Beyond the per-pallet payment, buyback programs eliminate several costs that businesses often overlook. Dumpster fees for pallet disposal can run $200-$500 per month. Labor time spent breaking down and disposing of pallets costs more than most managers realize. Space occupied by a growing pile of used pallets has an opportunity cost. And regulatory exposure from improper wood waste disposal — which is increasing in California — carries potential fines.
Setting Up a Buyback Arrangement
Getting started takes about 15 minutes. We visit your location, assess your typical pallet output (volume, sizes, and condition mix), and propose a pickup schedule and pricing structure. Most clients start with biweekly pickups and adjust frequency based on volume. There are no long-term contracts required — we believe the program should sell itself on value, not lock-in.
Tracking Your Impact
Every buyback pickup is documented with counts by grade. We provide monthly summaries showing total pallets recovered, estimated landfill diversion weight, and your cumulative revenue. This data is formatted for use in sustainability reports, waste reduction programs, and ESG documentation. Several of our buyback clients use this data as part of their annual environmental reporting.
